Gaslighting is a form of emotional abuse when one person tries to make another person believe they are imagining things or are mentally ill. If someone continually tells you that you’re wrong about something or that you’re misinterpreting them, they may be gaslighting you.
The gaslighting techniques used by covered narcissists are subtle and sophisticated. To them, your thoughts and feelings seem irrational, but they never provide the information you need to understand their perspective.
They may contradict whatever you say to undermine your Authority and respond with phrases like, “You’re so confused”, or “I have no idea what you’re talking about”. This is meant to make you doubt your sanity and believe that they have everything under control.
The more they do it, the more you’ll start to believe them and think you’re going crazy, when in reality, that’s just how they operate.
