Reason 2: Seeing and feeling through the mask

Introverts are not motivated by noise. They see little things like micro-expressions, changes in tone, and the atmosphere in the room. They feel inconsistencies in stories, contradictions in behavior, and subtle forms of manipulation.

When you’re not forever responding or fending off, you’re observing. And narcissists? They detest it. Their façade, so hard-earned with so much labor, begins to erode under your relentless, subdued notice. You begin to discern patterns others readily overlook. You observe the bitter bite beneath the charm, the deceit beneath the praise.

To a narcissist, such a sight is fatal. What they fear the most is to be exposed. To be actually seen is the worst nightmare they have because once somebody can behold them for who they really are, they are unable to conceal any longer, and once they cannot hide, then they cannot script. Game over.

Your silent observation and listening are more threatening to them than an open confrontation. You are now a mirror that they cannot manipulate a mirror reflecting the truth to them. And the truth is something that they’ve been trying to flee their whole life.
