Number 7: They weaponize their fragility to garner attention, admiration, and reassurance.

Covert narcissists have a tendency to present themselves as overly frail and delicate individuals to guilt people into providing them with the reassurance that they are indeed unique and under-appreciated, even when there is not a shred of evidence that indicates their supposed uniqueness or an under-appreciated status. They instrumentalize other people’s sympathy and empathy to receive attention and admiration from them, which they then consider to be proof of their specialness.

Number 8: They are envious, resentful, and prone to minimizing other people’s achievements.

Although it is highly unlikely that a covert narcissist will explicitly state that they are envious of someone, it is very much one of their defining emotions. They will often feel that they are more deserving of things someone else possesses wealth, influence, or status given that they are superficially fixated on external markers of success and power but are deeply unsure whether they can obtain them. They will probably start harboring resentment towards people who have achieved those things. They will most likely engage in dysfunctional coping mechanisms, such as minimizing the efforts those people had to put in to achieve their goals or belittling the importance of those goals.
