Narcissists are fast. They can lose things in a matter of seconds because they don’t care emotionally about anything. They can abandon you, on your child’s health, on their own professional life, on all that relationship and investment, like that. They don’t require closure. They don’t grieve. They just change lanes.

But there are things a narcissist cannot let go of because the things I’m about to talk about keep their core fantasy alive, and they will sell their soul to keep holding on to them, even if it means risking everything. These aren’t some random obsessions. They are deeply tied to how the narcissist sees him or herself. Without these things, they don’t feel real. They don’t feel powerful. They don’t think they are alive.

So let’s discuss the three things that a narcissist will risk anything for and why these things matter so much to them:

Number 2: Illusion of eternal youth

A narcissist isn’t just fearful of growing older, they’re tormented by it. They’re not grieving their body aging. No, they’re grieving losing being the center of the universe, the loss of power, the absence of the upper hand they possessed for simply entering a room. Youth, to them, wasn’t ever about energy. It was about control. They recall the way people viewed them, how simple it was to seduce, manipulate, and dominate. Once you have used your looks in life as a weapon, growing older is not a natural process. It is like losing your one safeguard. Therefore, they resist it. They overdo it.
